This Saturday welcomes the return of some outdoor Farmers Markets in the city. In case you haven’t heard, a farmers market is starting again in Dublin, and will be located at Bridge Park. A new Saturday market is coming to Westerville. A makers market starts in German Village. Also, this season’s Pearl Market is relocating to the Ohio Statehouse grounds.
This year, I’m trying out a CSA from the Yellowbird Foodshed. The delivery was close (Hills Market Downtown) and the price was right for a base box ($30). The Peach Truck is going to be making two stops at Weiland’s Market this year (as well as a few other stops around the city), June 30 and July 21, bringing their Georgia fresh peaches to Columbus.
If you don’t grow your own food or already support a CSA, local Farmers Markets give you a chance to get some of the best home grown food around. Here’s an updated 2018 list for you to get the best produce grown here in Columbus and our surrounding areas. Enjoy supporting your local farmers while feasting on the freshest foods!
400 Market. Every 2nd Friday from 6pm to 10pm, coincides with Franklinton Fridays. This market may not have lots of fresh produce, but does promise to have: “locally-produced: artisan baked goods, chocolates, & more; a variety of work from our in-house artists; hand-crafted jewelry, candles, soaps and more; vintage clothes & home goods; and more.”
Athens Farmers’ Market. A bit of a drive, but this one is great. “Our farmers and producers provide the absolute best food for area shoppers all year round! What began as a handful of farmers selling their produce is now a community event showcasing farmers, orchardists, specialty food producers, bakers, horticulturalists, cheese makers and many other food-based entrepreneurs.” The market is open Saturdays Year-round from 9am-12pm; on Wednesdays from 9am-12pm, running April through December; and on Thursdays from 4pm-7pm running May to September. Bexley Farmers’ Market, Intersection of Dawson and Main Streets, Thursdays from 4-7pm, May 24 – October. Locally grown produce, meats and cheeses, children’s events, food demonstrations. Like them on Facebook.

Canal Market District, Located at 36 E. Canal St., Newark, Ohio 43055. Friday Farmers Market returns on Friday, May 4. Hours 4pm-7pm. Tuesday Farmers Market opens in June. Arts & Crafts Market hours 10am-3pm on the select Saturdays of the Month: May 12, September 8, October 6, with a Farm Fair June 30 and a Christmas Market November 23. Shop from 60 of Central Ohio’s BEST local food producers and vendors. First farmers market in Licking County to accept EBT, WIC Farm Market Nutrition Program, and Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program coupons. Canal Winchester Farmers Market, Downtown at 36 S. High St., Saturdays from 9am-12pm, May 26 through September 29 (rain or shine). One of central Ohio’s longest running outdoor markets, the Canal Winchester Farmers’ Market runs Saturday mornings (rain or shine). Hours are from 9am-12pm. The market will be closed on July 28 to accomodate the Canal Winchester Blues & Ribfest, and September 1 for the Canal Winchester Labor Day Festival.
Clintonville Farmers’ Market. 2018 marks the 16th season of the Clintonville Farmers’ Market! And April 28 marks the opening day of outdoor Saturday markets along North High Street, between Orchard Lane and W. Dunedin Road. Join us from 9am-Noon for seasonal, locally-produced, freshly-harvested Ohio food and lots of fun. The market runs 30 weeks this year, every Saturday through November 17. Ride your bike to market and park bikes, wagons, and strollers at the Baer Wheels Bike Corral. Sign up for the Kids Garden Club. The market also provides access to The Compost Exchange.
