14 Things to Look Forward to in 2018

2017 is a thing of the past and 2018 has officially arrived. We’re already excited for the things that are in store for this year, and thought it would be a great time to recap what’s coming soon to your city.

    8. Target Will Open on High Street

The city’s first “urban” Target is slated to open this summer inside the new Wellington Building, located directly across High Street from The Wexner Center. This smaller store will measure approximately 30,000 square feet — around 25 percent of the size of a normal Target — and will also contain a CVS and Starbucks within.

    9. A New Governor of Ohio

Governor Kasich is term limited, so in 2018 we’ll be selecting a new Governor of Ohio. We’re starting the year off with a crowded field of at least 10 candidates, which will be whittled down on May 8 with a primary vote. The General Election takes place on November 6, which will be here faster than you realize.

    10. More of Everything at Bridge Park

It felt like we couldn’t go a week in 2017 without a new tenant announcement at Bridge Park in Dublin. While some of them have already come online, there’s a lot more still planned for opening in 2018, including Local Cantina, Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea, Z Cucina di Spirito, The Avenue Steak Tavern, 3 Palms Pizzeria, Fadó Irish Pub, REBoL, Hen Quarter and more yet to be announced.

    11. A Relocated CCAD Fashion Show

The Senior Fashion Show at CCAD will be getting a new home in 2018. The annual event will relocate from a pop-up event space on the grounds of the college campus to the Columbus Convention Center. The event is slated to take place on Friday, May 11 with tickets going on sale next month.

    12. A Whole Bunch of Columbus Underground Events

We’ve got a whole bunch of great events already on our calendar for 2018 to help you experience the best things Columbus has to offer. We’re kicking things off with our Sweet Treats Dessert Festival in February, a special two-date edition of our Urban Living Tour to celebrate its fifth year, and the Columbus Coffee will return this fall. Stay tuned for a dozen other announcement for new and returning events in between!

    13. A New MLK Branch Library

The ongoing renovation of 10 Columbus Metropolitan Library branches continues in 2018 with work expected to be completed this year on the new Martin Luther King Branch at 1467 E. Long St. on the city’s Near East Side. The new 18,000 square foot facility is doubling the size of the former building, and bringing a contemporary design to the area.

    14. A Bunch of New Restaurants, Bars and Breweries

If we listed them out individually, this list would go on much longer, but there’s a lot of new restaurants, bars and breweries slated to open in 2018. A couple that we’re really excited about include the highly anticipated opening of Ambrose & Eve, the expansion of Swenson’s to Columbus, the expansion and second location for Seventh Son, new Downtown Indian restaurant Haveli Bistro, new Cameron Mitchell deli concept Harvey & Ed’s, the Short North’s new Belgian Iron Wafle Co., two new restaurants from the creators of Olde Towne Tavern: Pecan Penny’s BBQ and The Woodbury, a new location for Late Night Slice, and possibly two new brewpubs from BrewDog in the Short North and Franklinton.
