Two regional wineries announced plans to merge today in an effort to leverage the strengths of each of the two wine production locations. Wyandotte Winery (located in North East Columbus) is acquiring Rockside Vineyards (located in Lancaster).
“Wyandotte is tucked into a neighborhood setting, a unique location for a winery,” said Robin Coolidge, co-owner and Winemaker at Wyandotte Winery. “That makes it very difficult for us to plant additional vineyards or expand our facility.”
Rockside on the other hand, has 4.5 acres of land dedicated to existing vineyards with another 17 acres of room to grow. Each of the two facilities will continue to operate independently on small-batch wine production.
“My wife Lynn and I have enjoyed creating and caring for Rockside,” said Ron Rutter, current owner and Winemaker. “The winery has been more successful than we could have imagined, but for personal reasons it is time for us to move on. We believe that the Coolidge’s will provide our customers with great wine, great service, and care for the winery like we have.”
The sale is expected to be completed by the end of the month. Rockside plans to expand hours and add a regular schedule of live music and events.
