    Writers to face off in Flash Fiction Championship Smackdown

    Columbus Creative Cooperative and Paging Columbus will present a Flash Fiction Championship Smackdown at the Urban Arts Space in downtown Columbus, Thursday, March 1, 2012, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. The event is free, and refreshments will be available.

    Ten contenders will each deliver a two-minute story. Audience votes will determine the top two, and those finalists will go pen-to-pen in an on-the-spot, flash fiction write off. The winner will take home a $50 Amazon.com gift certificate and the title of Flash Fiction Champion.

    Columbus Creative Cooperative is a resource for writers and an independent publisher of local literature. CCC provides central Ohio writers a network for peer feedback and collaboration through its regularly scheduled writing workshops, and the organization also publishes collective anthologies of short stories. Proceeds from the anthologies are distributed directly to the writers and other collaborators. Writers of all skill levels are welcome to join CCC and attend the free workshops.

    Paging Columbus is an event series with a literary theme. On the first Thursday evening of each month, Paging Columbus presents readings, panel discussions, and other literary-arts events. Hanna Stephenson curates the events. Stephenson is a poet, editor, instructor, and singer-songwriter who posts her original poetry daily at her website, The Storialist.

    The Ohio State University Urban Arts Space mission is to connect the university with the state and with world by providing a space that functions as an arts laboratory for Ohio State faculty, community artists, and Ohio State students. Located in the heart of downtown Columbus at 50 W. Town Street, the Urban Arts Space is providing a place for the central Ohio arts community to gather, network, and participate. Stephenson added, “Only one will emerge as a champion. But the rest will have a darn good time as we listen to prose, enjoy refreshments, and select a winner.”
