Last month, Realtor.com named the Columbus market as one of the hottest in the country. Today, Realtor.com has released a report of the latest home sales data that drills down by individual zip code, and has determined that 43085 in Worthington is the 2nd hottest housing zip in the entire US.
The median list price is $218,000 for the zip code, and houses are only on the market for a median of 26 days.
“Each locale on this list is emblematic of the key trends driving housing this year — healthy local economics, job opportunities, and affordability,” said Jonathan Smoke, chief economist of realtor.com, in the report. “For first-time home buyers, these communities provide great opportunities to enter the housing market, build a career, and raise a family; older generations are able to build wealth and enjoy a variety of lifestyles.”
The report has the following to say about Worthington specifically:
Worthington is a major relocation market. It benefits from being part of the Columbus metropolitan area, which offers stable employment and is the headquarters of a number of financial services and insurance companies—including Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. and Huntington Bancshares Inc.—as well as Ohio State University. The unemployment rate here is one of the lowest in the country.
While the news is certainly good for the local housing economy, Columbus is also regularly ranked highly for renters as well. It was named the 5th best city for renters by Forbes earlier this year, the 7th most affordable market for Millennial renters by RealtyTrac, and the #1 city in the US for wage growth.
