After two years of rumors, speculation and very light details, representatives at White Castle are ready to unveil their big plans for the redevelopment of their headquarters in Downtown Columbus. The organization has submitted plans to the Downtown Commission for review tomorrow, which includes a large mixed-use development on their 18-acres of land at 555 W. Goodale St.
If built as proposed, the three-phase development would include a campus of new buildings that feature 230-270 residential units, 90,000 square feet of office space for a new White Castle headquarters, an additional 50,000 to 100,000 square feet of leasable office space, a 284-space parking garage and an amenity-filled community center.
Columbus Development Director Steve Schoeny told Columbus Underground in July that the $65 million project is a “great re-use of that site, and the opportunity to keep White Castle in that location is wonderful.”
The proposed development sits just on the other side of Interstate 670 from another 20-acre proposal from Schottenstein Real Estate Group that was announced earlier this month, and the 30-acre “Pen West” project that is slated for development, primarily by Nationwide Realty Investors. Combined, the three projects would add 68-acres of dense, urban development to the northwest corner of Downtown Columbus.
