Well, we did have an open call for questions for several weeks for this specific interview. If you would have brought it up before hand, I would have asked. ;)

Smart, dense urban living is more sustainable than suburban (spread out) living. Kudos to Neighborhood Launch for developing such living space. Alas, I see no mention in this article about whether the CONSTRUCTION and ONGOING OPERATION of the housing units is very green, sorta green or the normal not-green-at-all. Constructing buildings that are not highly efficient is morally irresponsible to those generations who will have to waste energy to heat, cool and otherwise maintain those buildings. I wish this aspect had been addressed in the interview.

At CCAD we love this project and applaud Jeff for his vision and commitment.

By the bye: (on the subject of area retail) neighbors can visit our food court called The Market in our new residence hall called Design Square Apartments. We serve yummy food for breakfast, lunch & dinner every day - and it's INEXPENSIVE. One charge gets you in the door for all-you-can-eat. I dine there frequently. Also we have a handy convenience store called The Pod also located here (corner of Cleveland Ave & Gay Streets.)

The neighborhood is really, truly becoming one.

The Edwards have long been a class act in Central Ohio development. This just adds to a lengthy list of quality projects. Well done, Jeff!

@ Walker: I agree there are plenty of coffee shops a couple blocks away. I was just thinking maybe one in the middle of the "Neighborhood" for the eventual 400-500 people that will be living there. One can never have enough coffee shops.

It's a very impressive 15% to say the least. There are available retail spots right on Long nearby, there is that 7 story apartment building on the corner of Grant that will be built rather soon, and there is a video rendering of the finished product on the website. Like I said before, the perception of density is large and shows that that is possible even with a small number of people.

I love this project, but always thought the name (Neighboard Launch) was kind of weird, but that's just me.

I love this project its a great contrast to the high rises. However upon browsing the site I wish they provided or displayed the actual footprint/blueprint of its units or a video tour. It would further pique my interests.

This project is much better than the surface lots..I still perfer high rise living but thats just my opinion...also my opinion on the individual garages, maybe in 30 or 40 years Columbus will start to lose the idea of having a car to to drive everywhere...Great cities have great public transportaton!

jpizzow Says: Something as simple as a coffee shop or salon can go a long way.

There are nearly a dozen places to get coffee within a 5-10 minute walk of Neighborhood Launch, and at least one salon (1400 Downtown) and a barber shop too.

I agree that more amenities are essential, but coffee and haircare are already covered. ;)
