Wexner Center to Start Selling Apple Products

By: Walker

Press Release wrote Wexner Center Store to Carry Wide Variety of Apple Products Starting in Late September

The elegant designs and forward-thinking technology of Apple will be available in the Wexner Center Store starting Monday, September 24 (with demo products on hand September 19). The Store, located in the lower lobby of the Wexner Center for the Arts, will be the only retailer of Apple products at The Ohio State University.

“We are very pleased to be an Apple authorized campus store,” says Matt Reber, store manager. “As an international arts center with an eye always on innovative, cutting-edge technology and design, this partnership with Apple is a natural one for us.”

The Store will stock iPods (including the new iPod Touch), iMacs, MacBooks, software, and more. The Ohio State University’s faculty, staff and students as well as Wexner Center for the Arts patrons can shop for Apple products and enjoy Apple Education Pricing on Macs and Apple software. In addition to in-store sales, the Wexner Center Store will also handle special orders for all Apple products.

This partnership is part of a larger Ohio State University program which will also include a new computer retail outlet slated to open in the Central Classrooms Building later this year. This outlet will offer both Apple and PC products.

The Wexner Center Store is open Monday 10 am–4 pm, Tuesday & Wednesday 10 am–6 pm, Thursday & Friday 10 am–8 pm, Saturday 11 am–8 pm, and Sunday 11 am–6 pm.

  • I just got the word on this, too. I wonder if students will be able to buy stuff with their BUCKID.

  • Hey Corey! Welcome to Columbus Underground! 8)

For me being a non-student this is awesome news, since the only other real option for Apple purchases mean either driving to the Apple store at Easton or driving to Microcenter or Best Buy in other suburban areas…

  • Yeah, I heard that deal was probably happening. I am really happy for them. I don’t know how many of you have been to the Wexner Store. I assume driving foot traffic in was the driving force behind this. Its one of the best retail stores in the city hands down. Matt does a fantastic job. Oh yeah, and they carry us..

  • This is an exciting development. Wonder what the OSU staff discount on software is? I can use the new iLife suite.

It’s just their standard education discount, which you can peruse through the online Apple Store for Education.

Discounts are always a good thing (especially on Apple products, since they start high to begin with), but it’s nothing Earth-shattering.

  • I’ve reflected on this post for a couple of days now. I am increasingly unhappy with Apple. I think we are at a stage in the adoption of all this great new mobile computing technology where we are just starting to get our heads around the possibilities but are very prone to getting locked into inovation-stifling regimes, and Apple is starting to look increasingly like that. Consider that the iPhone introduces a bunch of proprietary scripting stuff onto designers a la IE4. Consider that the iPod all but requires iTunes on your computer (I’m losing hair trying to get it working nicely under linux so I can go completely windows free) and defaults to a proprietary format. I could go on.

Consider that much of the hoopla around the iPhone is based on its design – which is really getting so so reviews from people who’ve already bought one – and it really isn’t any better than cheaper alternatives without the hoopla.

When a company uses savvy marketing and slick design to ride one or two breakthroughs to a position of innovation and open-standard stifling dominance for years to follow, I don’t care how cool or uncool the CEO is, it’s bad.

I like the idea of putting this stuff closer to the hands of college students (see this report), but I don’t like the single-source aspect of this. I hope the ‘other’ store in CC opens up soon.

Oh yeah, I think it’s great, too. It’s such a pain in the butt to get to Easton sometimes -especially from the campus area- so having a spot right on High St. is very convenient

I think they’re looking at November as a likely opening for the other computer store… but that’s far enough out that things could always change in the interim as well.

In the meantime, OSU does have “Prime Supplier” agreements with Dell, HP, and Lenovo that students, faculty & staff can use for personal purchases online, starting from ibuy.osu.edu (though an OSU login is required to actually get to the vendor lists and such).

One might be a snappier dresser, but they’re still just two megalomaniacs 8)

Other computer store? are you implying that apply will be opening another store in Columbus?

No, there is another computer store with a wider selection going in the Central Classrooms building on campus. It will have Apple stuff, along with other products.
