“With this facility, we aim to create a truly innovative and inspiring habitat for discovery and learning—one that complements but doesn’t duplicate other such resources in Columbus or elsewhere,” said Wexner Center Director Sherri Geldin. “We have also just begun a planning process that involves leading thinkers from around the country, all focused on the ever-more-important intersections among art, design, technology, and education.”

The new space will be the first true expansion of the Wexner Center since it originally opened in 1989. It will also be he first fully dedicated education space.

“While we are researching other education and youth facilities around the country for best practices—and bringing a variety of voices and experts to the table along the way, including area teens—we do expect this to be a unique and innovative facility, unlike anything else in the city, region, or country, that draws especially upon the Wexner Center’s distinctive multidisciplinary nature and location at a university,” said Karen Simonian, Director of Media & Public Relations at Wexner Center for the Arts.

The expansion is expected to open in late 2014.
