The Columbus Museum of Art opened their West Garden addition last week, providing a new green oasis for the Discovery District area of Downtown. The outdoor entrance to the garden faces Ninth Street and will serve as an entry point to the museum for school buses and group tours.
The garden was designed by MKSK (formerly known as MSI and KKG) and features multiple pathways, decorative iron fencing, trees, flowers an other landscaping. Ground was broken on the project in October 2011 and construction of the space took approximately 9 months.

The only thing this beautiful garden is missing is a statue…
The fence design, shape of the garden and multi-tier aspect really helps this stand out. I hope other design projects around the city follow suite to break out of the norm (are you hearing me columbus commons apt developers?)
And I agree, maybe some sort of plaque or monument dedicated to the garden would be great for kids to read and learn about.
Agreed on the design. The fencing is pretty wild, as it “feels” very open and approachable and only when you get close do you realize you can’t get in or out of it. At some angles, you’d barely notice it. I also like that the entire fence has the same height while the ground slopes, so at the front the fence “posts” tower above you and by the door, they’re waist high. Kind of an interesting transition while walking around inside the space.
