There may be other Andy Warhol exhibits in the country, but the Wexner Center for the Arts will be the heart of them all with its exclusive U.S. presentation of Andy Warhol: Other Voices, Other Rooms from Saturday, Sept. 13, through Feb. 15, 2009.

Fans are expected to travel to Columbus from both coasts to see it.

“I think this is a major cultural moment for Ohio, for the Midwest, and really for the country,” said Wexner Center spokeswoman Karen Simonian. “It’s an ambitious show, so not every museum could even accommodate it.”

Considering how many major celebrities and international art lovers showed up at the Philly Art Museum to see the Dali exhibit a few years back, you may be right.

Does this mean celebrities like Lance Armstrong and Kate Hudson can break up right here in C-Bus ;)

This is going to be a great exhibit for the Wex, University and the whole city.

  • Here’s more on the work the Wexner curators have done in bringing exhibits to Columbus. Pretty impressive.

The Dispatch wrote Andy Warhol, an artist obsessed with fame and celebrity, might have had a cow to learn that Columbus is the only place in America to see the latest showcase of his work. Likewise, internationally known film director Milos Forman needed a prod to consider Ohio’s capital for a major retrospective, and New York’s famed Guggenheim Museum was loath to include Columbus in a touring exhibit of Roy Lichtenstein’s works. They are all examples of the high hurdles — sometimes physical but often psychological — the curators at the Wexner Center for the Arts must clear as they compete with institutions worldwide for exhibits, films and performing artists.

  • I went to the Warhol exhibit today, erm, yesterday – it is really well-curated! Nice exhibit. I especially liked the TV portion at the end. I could have spent hours in that area alone. And I saw John Waters walking around! Wearing some crazy pants.

  • Too bad all those brutus statues aren’t out already, we could really impress them with our art!

They’re all outside the Schottenstein Center, it’s almost like an Easter Island of Brutii!

  • Well then I think the Warhol exhibit is probably just getting the run-off traffic then. I stand corrected.

  • I went to the exhibit on Saturday and was very impressed. The Wexner Center brought out the red carpet for this. The Silver Clouds display was very whimsical. Liked watching the kids play in there. I plan on going back and spending a few more hours watching the movies. You can spend a whole day in one room.

  • Anyone catch the news this morning when Johnny DiLoretto asked what makes the silver foil balloons different than Warhols other cliche works?
