While we often report on the opening and closings of new restaurants (we tallied up 40 new openings in 2015 and 14 closures), we don’t always report on the sale of restaurants from one owner to another. Sometimes these transactions mean very little to customers as the concept remains the same, while other times it means a fresh restart with new menus and new experiences.
To that end, we occasionally publish a big list of restaurants currently for sale, to not only give readers an idea of where change is occurring, but also to share information with potential buyers who are looking to start their own business venture here in Columbus.
Here are 11 restaurant and retail spaces currently for sale in Columbus:
Cray (Italian Village) — Slider-centric bar and restaurant Cray is listed for sale inside the Wonderbread building in Italian Village. The spot opened in 2014, measures 2,500 square feet, and is going for $159,000. CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS.
Custom Chef (Downtown) — This Downtown sandwich original opened in 2011, and underwent some major updates in 2014. The space is a smaller 1,500 square feet, and the asking price is $49,000. CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS
Zen Cha Tea Salon (Downtown) — This Gay Street tea shop business is not specifically for sale, but the space it inhabits at 19 East Gay Street is listed for rent. The 2,000 square foot restaurant comes with a leasing rate of $31/sqft. CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS
Wall Street Nightclub (Downtown) — While this isn’t quite a restaurant (no kitchen) we thought it was worth mentioning as a prominent Downtown bar and nightclub location. The large multi-story space clocks in at 11,000 square feet with an asking price of $575,000. The popular dance club closed their doors at the end of 2015. CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS
White Rabbit / Tommy Keegan’s (Brewery District) — While the 3,100 square foot restaurant space located in the basement of 460 South Front Street hasn’t been home to a bar or restaurant for awhile, it was proposed to become White Rabbit in 2013, which eventually fell through after renovations began. 232 South Fourth Street (Downtown) — The retail space at 232 South Fourth is currently a tuxedo shop, but is likely prime for redevelopment into a restaurant concept, given its proximity to the hip stretch of bars and eateries on the block. The Clubhouse (Brewery District) — The restaurant space at 340 Greenlawn avenue has gone through several iterations, most recently becoming The Clubhouse sports bar in January 2014. The 2,900 square foot space is for sale for $129,000. CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS
