A proposed development proposed for the intersection of Grandview and Fifth avenues could mean war — drugstore wars.

Development firm Visconsi Companies Ltd. presented plans to the Fifth by Northwest Area Commission for a 11,514-square-foot Walgreens at the northwest corner of Fifth and Grandview avenues, during a commission meeting Sept. 11.

If approved, the Walgreens would sit just one block from a CVS store at 1733 Fifth Ave.

Trustworthy Hardware, 1434 W. Fifth Ave., along with a portion of the adjacent retail center — all located within Columbus city limits — would be demolished to accommodate the new building, if plans are OK’d.

Demolition would include 15,572 square feet of retail space and displace three tenants: General Nutrition Centers, the Laptop Guy and CK Nails.

The three displaced tenants could move to a new retail redevelopment known as the Shoppes on Fifth Avenue — also owned by Kohr Royer Griffith — under construction along Fifth Avenue just east of Olentangy River Road.
