Vintage Store “The Attic” Opens in The Short North

Rhome Ruanphae has got his hands full. After opening Basil Thai last December, he’s already embarking on another business venture next door. The Attic, located at 1122 North High Street will carry a variety of vintage furniture and clothing in addition to an assortment of other local products including baked goods from Pattycake, candles from Candle Lab and jewelry from local crafters.

“I have a retail background and have always wanted to open a retail store of my own,” said Ruanphae. “This was the perfect opportunity to have fun with both of my passions of retail and food.”

Ruanphae describes the store as a blend between what you’d find at American Furnishings, Restoration Hardware and Anthropologie. The product selection will be a mix of old and new with an eye on keeping prices affordable and accessible.

“The idea is to keep the store changing every day and to keep guests coming back to discover new items every visit,” added Ruanphae.

The store will eventually have consignment program for resellers, but Ruanphae says they’re holding off on implementing that program for the time being.

“Right now we are interested in buying items that fit the store’s identity: authentic, vintage and local,” said Ruanphae. “And since we have just opened, we’re working off the evening traffic in the area and could eventually increase the hours of business as we grow.”

Store hours are Monday through Saturday 5pm to 10pm and Sunday 12pm to 5pm.
