Nightlife Review: Victorians’ Midnight Cafe

By: Anne

Checked this place out again last week. I had gone there a couple of times during my college years and thought it was alright. Although I had only ordered drink before.

I went on a Tuesday night with Walker and my sister Katie who was here for orientation at OSU. She wanted macaroni & cheese and that was the only place I could think of around there that would have it and be open later on, and be somewhere that was unique to the area. So we stopped in.

Parked right in front of the place. Went inside and it was HOT. No air conditioning; there were fans running which helped out, but it was still really hot. It was probably about 10:15pm. Katie ordered her mac & cheese and I ordered a Raspberry salad and Walker ordered the hummus plate.

All of the food was pretty good. The salad I had was delicious and had quite a few raspberries scattered on it, so I was impressed. Walker’s hummus was their own recipe and it included pesto which gave it an unfamiliar taste, but not necessarily a bad one.

However there was only one girl working the bar, taking orders, serving food AND cooking it! So the service was really slow. She did apologize for that though, and was very nice.

I think it’s a cool place, but not COOL. haha. I would not recommend going there when it is hot, unless you are not bothered by that. They serve food pretty late.

  • Although i can’t speak on the problem of it being too hot (I’ve only come here in the winter), I have decided that this is my favorite spot in town.

It’s a totally rocking place, the breakfast is great, and it’s right by my house.

    What else could you want?

  • i love this place. i remember going here when i was a senior in high school like 10 years ago.

    connies grilled cheese FTW!

  • I went to a Dylan tribute/ Third Hand Bike benefit here last Thursday and the place is going to hell.  There is no water in the men’s restroom which makes me wonder about some of the health codes and who is doing the food prep.  They used to have a good beer selection and now it is down to one beer on tap.  They didn’t have a single beer from Ohio (not even in a bottle.)  More and more this place creeps me out, which is a shame because it has tons of potential.  I am actually hoping it goes under so someone else can give it the love it deserves.

  • I thought it was closing?

  • Not closing, I believe there’s going to be new ownership.

  • nice folks, but a total dump. +1 on the third world bathrooms, you know you are in trouble when you place makes Bernies look good, though I am still haunted by the Bernie’s smell.

Hopefully this is the old ownership and not the new that has sent the place to shit.
