The US women’s national soccer team played their first game since the shock of not winning Olympic gold on Thursday night at MAPFRE Stadium in a friendly that turned into a destruction as visiting punching-bags Thailand found themselves at the mercy of a team rebounding from the disappointment of Rio.
The Shell-shocked Thailand team were finished almost as soon as they began as they found themselves a goal down after 50 seconds, three goals down within 4 minutes and ended the game on the wrong end of a crushing 9-0 loss.
Carli Lloyd grabbed a hat-trick, second-half substitute Alex Morgan scored twice, while Christen Press, Tobin Heath, Crystal Dunn and Heather O’Reilly, making her final USWNT appearance, also got their names on the score sheet.
