Two Bob Evans restaurants in Columbus were among 11 of the chain’s stores closed suddenly for poor performance. The restaurants at 1611 Polaris Parkway and 2475 Brice Rd. stopped doing business yesterday afternoon.

The other closed restaurants are in Florida, Missouri, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia. The closed outlets represent 2 percent of the restaurants in the Bob Evans chain.

The Brice Road restaurant is nearly 26 years old and is in a Far East Side market that has lost traffic to newer developments. The store in the bustling Polaris area is just eight years old.

Bob Evans Farms also owns the Mimi’s Cafe casual restaurant chain, which has 110 stores in 19 states. A Mimi’s Cafe is at Polaris, and it is doing “quite well,” Davis said.”

I can’t believe the one on Polaris Parkway was under performing? I thought everything up there was booming?

I’m surprised that one was underperforming as well. It’s right off I-71, and there are a lot of other Bob Evans’ on the Northside which I would’ve thought would be doing worse.

Maybe it’s just a matter of too much competition in the area? There are literally DOZENS of other (and arguably, much more interesting/exciting) dining options in the Polaris area. Probably just a matter of over saturation – a common place like Bobs just doesn’t stand out in the crowd.

but it’s so close to Delaware… and you know those Delaware people… can’t see them eating at too many of the “more exciting” places. :P

I still find it strange. Not that it effects me at all because I can’t remember the last time I went to Bobs. but still strange

Enh, there are at least 2 (probably more) even closer to Delaware – one in Powell, one by the Giant Eagle on High/US-23 just north of Polaris…

Even MORE interesting… in looking at their web site to find other locations, I just saw that Bob Evans also owns & operates Mimi’s Cafe – of which there is one RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from the Bob Evans there on Polaris which just closed. So maybe another factor was competition from their own company? I know I’d definitely choose Mimi’s over Bob’s 9 times out of 10.
