Treat to try: Mozart Bakery’s Mozart Torte

Strawberry shortcake is one of my favorite desserts. Growing up, it was the special treat I always ordered at our summer-time only Dairy Queen. Mozart’s Bakery and Piano CafĂ© makes a Mozart Torte that is a lovely sophisticated version of strawberry shortcake. At 4 inches tall, a slice of their Torte is a good size for one, but you could share a few bites if you wanted to.

The Torte is served chilled. Three layers of delicate and airy white cake with sweet whipped cream between each layer. More whipped cream and fresh strawberries in gelée top it. The back side of the cake is coated with a heavy layer of slivered almonds. A nice surprise of more strawberries and gelée await you in the first layer.

The Torte is available by the slice for $3.50 or by the whole 7″ cake for $28. Also pictured is their signature pastry, the Marzipan Peach ($2.99). (You know… because you can’t go to Mozart’s and not get one of those!)

Mozart’s Bakery and Piano CafĂ© is located at 2885 North High Street, Columbus, 43202. They are closed on Monday, open Tuesday – Thursday 7:30am-9:30pm, Friday and Saturday 7:30am-11pm, and Sunday 8am-5:30pm.
