Olde Towne East is certainly becoming a fun area along Oak Street with all of the businesses opening there. L’appât Patisserie & Café opened last November in a beautiful old building. The French pastry shop specializes in European pastries with a global view. You can also order heartier meals. On this warm day, I picked up an Apple Chausson. It’s a chilled, delicate, and beautiful pastry enveloping a light layer of cinnamon apple filling.
The pastry dough is really what shines in this dessert. The decorative knife work across the top is beautiful. The pasty itself is buttery, very flaky and lightly browned. The slight chewiness makes it delightful to eat and it doesn’t completely fall apart once you bite into it – it actually retains its height with each bite. The apple chausson was about 5 1/2″ long and 2 1/2″ wide. At only $2.50, it’s a steal.

L’appât Patisserie & Café is located at 1159 Oak Street and is open Monday-Friday from 7am to 7:00pm, Saturday from 8am to 5pm, and closed on Sunday. Visit them on Facebook.

That is a great price. I really like the sweet potato cake they sell.
I stopped in today after Allan of the next-door Oak Street Meat and Poultry recommended lunch here. This place is a gem. The owner could not be more friendly and the lunch menu is truly interesting. It changes weekly. Today’s menu offered a Tilapia pate sandwich for $7. The pate is made in-house, of course. What surprised me is the level of culinary finish on this-the pate was the real deal-an emulsion with great texture and flavor, on perfectly toasted wheat bread (perhaps also house-made) with lettuce and onion presented for take-out much like the twice-the-price stuff from the Columbus Museam cafe.
