    Transit Columbus Announces Map Contest

As a follow-up to last year’s Good Ideas Columbus initiative, Transit Columbus last night announced a new project – a map contest focussed less on transportation ideas for the future and more on promoting the city’s existing assets.

Details of the Alternative Transportation Map Contest – including a $2,000 cash prize for the winner – were revealed at an event at Sidebar. The goal of the initiative is to call attention to the many different ways to get around Columbus without a car.

Transit Columbus board member Josh Lapp explained that the idea is to create a “uniquely stylized map of central Ohio’s alternative transportation offerings.” The map could include COTA bus routes, COGO stations, the Car2Go service area, and any information needed to bike safely around town, like shared-use paths, bike lanes and/or routes.

The winning map would be used by Transit Columbus and its partner organizations to help promote alternative transportation in the area.

The contest officially opens on November 1st, with submissions being accepted through the end of the year. Online voting will be utilized to select the top ten maps (the award for making that top ten is a year’s CoGo membership). A committee assembled by Transit Columbus will select the winner.
