Bravo’s Top Chef has a travelling tour that’s hitting 20 cities this summer including Columbus. It will be in town the weekend of July 11-13. What’s that? It’s also the weekend of the North Market Food & Ohio Wine Festival Presented by National City…how will you ever choose which to attend? Well, you won’t have to! It looks like they are bringing their travelling trailer to the North Market and we’ve rearranged our site to accomodate them. You can watch cooking demos by Top Chef candidates on Saturday, July 12th AND partake in some fine Ohio Wines!
I’m rather light on any further details at this point. They have a website located here but it’s not overly informational either. But as I am typing this JUST came in: Our 2 chefs will be season 3 winner Hung, and this years runner up Richard. Each of them is only making ONE appearance and its Columbus!
Live interactive shows are scheduled for Saturday at 10:30am, noon and 1:30pm.

It’s free to attend unless you are drinking wine. There’s a tasting fee. But your sister is welcome to come listen to bands, watch cooking demos and be your designated driver.
I really recommend going to this fest. I worked at North Market (in Grapes of Mirth, so I was practically bartending) for my first one, then got to play around the tasting booths with Rockmastermike last year. We were able to take the #5 COTA route to and from, so we had our designated driver built in courtesy of the city. What fun!
Uggh. I have to be in Gallipolis that day. Double uggh.
THANKS FOR THE INFO! A free food/wine fest? yayuh!
Bump. T minus 40 some hours until Top Chef Tour’s Hung and Richard start their demos at the North Market Food & Ohio Wine Festival. Demos take place at 10:30, 12 and 1:30. Tickets are sold out on the Bravo website but I hear they will be taking walk-ins. I’d recommend getting here early for a shot at that as I have no idea when they will start taking names. Even if you don’t get in to Top Chef we’ve got some great local chefs doing free demos in the farmers market:

Cooking in an 18-wheel semi-truck on Spruce Street in the Short North isn’t quite on the same level as cooking Le Cirque’s signature sea bass for Sirio Maccioni, the famed restaurant’s owner, but at least it’s gotta be better than devising a dish based on “green,” “perplexed” and “tofu,” three words that seemingly do not add up to a single menu item.
Two chefs from Bravo’s Top Chef will be able to compare the three experiences at the North Market’s Food and Ohio Wine Festival this weekend. Season three winner Hung Huynh and season four runner-up Richard Blais — who deserves much kudos for actually making his green perplexed tofu dish sound tasty — will perform cooking demonstrations Saturday at three hour-long interactive shows.

Top Chef is one of my favorite foodie shows, so you can imagine I was excited to find out that Hung and Richard were signing autographs at the festival. I wasn’t star struck, it was just great to interact with two great chefs on the streets of Columbus. They were happy to sign the Top Chef Cookbook that was being sold in the truck, but it didn’t include season 4 with Richard. Oh well.
During my conversation with Hung, I mentioned that we had our share of acclaimed chefs in Ohio, and he replied, “Chef Handke, Right? We ate at his restaurant last night.” I was pleased that he was able to meet this amazingly talented chef, a true Columbus gem.

Neither of them would verbally to a restaurant in Columbus yet, but time will tell.
The festival was a blast, by the way. Thanks to everyone who made it a success.
cool! got any pictures to share? :)

Interesting that they went with Handke. He’s probably the most decorated chef between NYC and Chicago but I think his dishes, presentation and restaurant are all very old-school compared to the styles both Hung and Richard demonstrated on the show. For my money, I’d rather do Alana’s or Rosendales, or even the Refectory because I think they do old-school better than Handke.
No question about different styles there Ninja. I think it was a great opportunity for them to meet an inspiring ACF, Masterchef and comingle on Bravo’s budget. Maybe the visit will lend them some insight for their further ventures, especially since Richard has a family.
Yeah, I am disappointed to hear they went to Handke’s. Sounds like they need a better fixer (note to Bravo – I am available for that job). I think Alana’s is probably our most unique, standout restaurant, and I would take any visiting chef there.
