For those who don’t frequent the center of our city much, here are a few pics of what’s going on at the intersection of Broad and High.
This development, cleverly named “Broad & High”, will soon be home to NBC4, Caribou Coffee, Cafe Lola, 24 high-end condos ($219,000 – over $1 million), and some flashy video boards.
I’ve been told by a friend at NBC4 that the studio will be a “satellite” studio, meaning that it will only be staffed by cameras, “the talent”, and possibly some production support. All of the camera operation and editing will be done remotely from their current home on Olentangy River Road.
Regardless of how things work, it’ll be great for everyone in the broadcast area to see the street-level activity that we’ve got downtown.

Define soon.

Construction has already started and is scheduled to be complete in Fall 2007.
I believe this was started in fall or winter of 2004. Seems like only recently have they decided to actually start working on it.
I’ll be happy if they prove me wrong, but I would be surprised if it finished this fall.
Make that late fall. :D
Broad and High is lighting up on December 20th! There will be a kick-off ceremony at 5pm if anyone is interested!
Personally, I can’t wait to see it lit up. I like bright and shiny objects.
I’m planning on going! Calendar’s marked, and I’m giddy with excitement. This has been a long time coming. Hooray Columbus!!
This is cool. I have been watching the progress of this since I’ve been working downtown. I can’t wait.
im glad they used an old building instead of going the typical columbus route of tearing the old buildings down.
Well, the building with all the lights is all completely new. :)
BTW, I saw some of the signs on today when I drove past!
They’ve added a bunch of little billboard like signs to the top of the marquee. It’s kind of weird, they are 3D, they look a bit strange. The Nationwide one is a clock, and I think the Kroger one is going to rotate. They also had the marquee on the other night, it is super bright. Maybe just because it is fairly close to the ground.
I just saw that at lunch and thought it looked somewhat tacky. I am going to start calling it the Hunington Bud light Nationwide NBC Building. This is definitely not what they promised. Nothing times square about those.

What’s that giant Coke machine doing on top of the building?
does anybody remember when the old camera shop Collapsed during the initial construction? it had the bill board on the roof, i think that happened last year. i would assume that the collapse really held up the project and im honestly supprised to see it this far along. but it looks good, not too sure about the giant coke vending machine but a much needed improvement.
Giant Cabot gets thirsty.
yeah i remember. i worked across the street and heard of the collapse on the news that night. we all thought that the onecolumbusplace building that i worked in and planned on not going to work the next day……we were wrong.

Several news tickers and video screens have surfaced on Capitol Square, and like fireworks on the Fourth of July, they have captured the attention of pedestrians and drivers alike.
Get ready for an explosion.
The developers of the Broad & High project in the heart of Downtown today plan to unveil today an elaborate text-and-video montage they hope will take multimedia marketing to a new level.
Casto’s office, residential and retail project will feature two tickers and six video screens. The eye-grabber is a 68-foot-by-15-foot screen that wraps around the corner of Broad and High and stands atop a new four-story office building.
Casto formed a venture with Orange Barrel Media to create the complex sign display, which has attracted seven of the eight major sponsors the venture was seeking.

I agree with some of the others that it looks somewhat tacky. OF course it is much better than what we had, but I think the building could have done without the 2 adds that are in the center, the lowest one could stay, and the huge wrap around at the top. Maybe they had to sell this amount of advertising to even make the project financially feasible?
