For the first time ever, the students participating in the Columbus College of Art & Design Senior Fashion Show got to do whatever they wanted.

Not bound by a predetermined theme for this year’s show, they were free to use anything and everything as inspiration for their designs. Perhaps unsurprisingly, their muses vary widely, from the ballet and ancient Egypt to Salvador Dalí and Americana.

The show, which is slated to begin at 8:45 p.m. Friday, will feature 67 designs by 21 seniors.

A jury of fashion executives −including CCAD alumnae Katie Brennan, design director at Abercrombie & Fitch, and Jennifer Porreca-Faux, design director at Tween Brands, as well as Monique Morin, design director at Limited Brands− selected the designs that will make their way down the catwalk. Students presented up to six completed garments for consideration.

“This signature event showcases the work of our talented students to the creative industry employers, and helps us fund the educations of the next group of students,” said Laurie Beth Sweeney, CCAD vice president for advancement.

The show is expected to net $200,000 for CCAD’s general scholarship fund. The show began as part of the college’s year-end student exhibition, which is now in its 134th year; it was first marketed as a fundraiser in 2007.

The show’s festivities kick off with a VIP reception (open to VIP ticket holders only) at 7:30 p.m., followed by the runway show, and an après runway dance party that goes from 9:30-11 p.m.− all held at CCAD’s Design Studios on Broad, located downtown at 390 E. Broad St.

Doors open to general admission ticket holders at 8 p.m.

General admission tickets, and a limited number of VIP tickets, are still available.

General admission tickets are $125 per person and include standing-room admission to the runway show, admission to the après runway dance party, and two complimentary drink tickets.

VIP tickets are $350 per person and include VIP parking, access to the VIP pre-show party, reserved seating at the runway show, a complimentary bar all evening (including both pre- and post-show parties), and a VIP gift.
