The Ohio Art League is hosting its One Night 2012: Speakeasy event on Nov. 2 at Loft at Dock 580 in the Smith Bros. Hardware Building, located downtown at 580 N. Fourth St.
The 10th annual event goes from 8 to 11 p.m. General admission tickets cost $50 each or $75 per pair; VIP tickets cost $100 each or $150 per pair, and must be purchased prior to the event.
“The 1920s lends itself to a party,” said Bryan Gavin, executive board chair and treasurer of OAL. “We’ll have the place decked out, live music, and −unlike the bathtub gin of that time− we’ll be serving some quality signature cocktails for the evening.”
A silent art auction will take place from 8 to 10:30 p.m. However, at 7 p.m. VIP ticket holders can begin making purchases at buy-it-now prices; they can also enjoy an open bar.
A live auction will be held from 9 to 10 p.m. and cocktails will be available for purchase all evening.
“The primary purpose of One Night is to raise funds for our wonderful organization,” Gavin said. “We also hope that by primarily focusing on art sales, this will bring together our contributing members with potential buyers. This serves as an awesome opportunity for our members to gain positive exposure from the art-buying community.”
Any OAL member may contribute artwork to the silent auction, but about 10 pieces will be hand-selected beforehand and offered for sale during the live auction.
“A selection in our live auction historically yields higher premiums,” Gavin said. “We, in return, hope contributing artists will submit some of their best work.”
Proceeds from One Night benefit OAL, a non-profit organization that provides exhibition and professional development opportunities to artists, and its members.
Contributing artists will receive 50 percent of the proceeds from auction sales.
The event’s organizers are hoping for a packed house and Gavin says the venue can easily accommodate more than 325 attendees.
Tickets for One Night 2012: Speakeasy are available online at OAL.org/OneNight. General admission tickets will also be available at the door for $50 each, but advance purchases are encouraged.
