Impound lot to be tested for pollutants Saturday, April 24, 2010 BY MARK FERENCHIK THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH Franklin County Metro Parks has been awarded a $200,000 federal grant to test Columbus' impound lot for contaminants before Scioto Audubon Metro Park can be expanded. I’m glad they’re moving it but why do they have to put the impound next to the river again? It seems like all the fluids leak out of junkers into the river.

Thanks for the info. Mike. That’s what I figured. And, the section of the bike trail heading north from the peninsula is gorgeous this time of year on a cool fall afternoon. I can’t wait until they get the bridges done and the rest of the bank completed. It’s going to be a great connection to downtown and points north. I have to say…sometimes I feel really good about Columbus’ future.

I ride that path all the time. Very nice. It takes you right past the new Scioto Mile and the Main Street Bridge.

VicVillage Guy - the best way to get from Vic Village to the peninsula is to go South on the Olentangy/Scioto trail. When you get to Broad, keep going South on Marconi. Turn right on Main which leads you back to the actual bike path along the Scioto river again. That's the begining of the Whittier peninsula and after a little while on that (~1 mile) you'll see a path break off to the left up to the Park. Good luck.

I think that used to be or was at one time the Cols. Parks and Rec building?
could be way off….

Can anyone provide an update on the other large structure on the peninsula – that ratty old warehouse lookin’ thing? If they could get rid of that eyesore, they’d have the entire peninsula west of the tracks – but I hear he’s been a jerk. ???

As you walk around the new Audubon Park, it’s difficult to not notice the impound lot which is at the polar opposite end of the healthy natural environment you’re witnessing.
After the lot is relocated and cleaned up this park will be even more spectacular and really darn big. Looking forward to it happening and enjoying the park with my family in the mean time.
(especially after the playground and climbing wall go in)
