2017 was another banner year for urban development in Columbus, with dozens of active construction sites bringing new projects to life all across the city. Some of those projects included massive new multi-acre neighborhoods being planned out, while others were more intimate renovation projects. When asked about the top project of the year, our readers and editors went with the latter and picked The Citizens Building to fill the top spot.
Originally announced in 2014, and completed earlier this year, The Citizens Building represents a conversion of a former bank and office building into 63 new apartment units at the prominent Downtown intersection of Gay and High Streets. In addition to apartments, the new building includes a fitness center for residents, a below-street pedestrian tunnel that will connect to a new underground parking garage that is currently under construction, and the newly relocated Veritas Tavern, which is scheduled to open any minute.
