The state has refused to renew liquor permits for what Columbus police say are two of the most notorious problem bars in town.
Representatives of both bars said they will appeal.
The Ohio Division of Liquor Control has denied permit renewals for 2007-08 for the Nuthouse, 2159 N. High St., a popular student and football hangout, and the Shark Bar & Grill — formerly the Obvious nightclub — at 2467 E. Dublin-Granville Rd., which police say has been a prime gathering place for gang members.
Liquor Control spokesman Matt Mullins said the establishments must stop serving alcohol after 30 days. If they appeal, they can ask the Ohio Liquor Control Commission for permission to continue serving alcohol during the appeal.

Jumping the shark, eh?
Have you noticed how many problem bars are named Shark, Sharks, Sharkys….
It’s like naming your daughter Candy.
I’m not really surprised about the Nuthouse. That location has closed and re-opened as several different bars/clubs/whatever in the last few years.
Ok, who can add to the list of its former incarnations?
The Roxy
Aqua
that’s all I can think of for now…
The Nut House was most recently known as Old School.
major woody’s is going to be boomin now.
i didn’t bother going to either one of these bars so i’m not sad to see them go. i have heard nothing but trouble with the two bars when my friends went to these places. oh well. bars come and they go.

The Nuthouse bar near the Ohio State University campus will remain closed while the owner appeals the state’s refusal to renew its liquor license.
Meanwhile, the Ohio Liquor Control Commission is allowing the Shark Bar & Grill on Rt. 161 near Cleveland Avenue to remain open pending its appeal.
Mark Anderson, the liquor commission’s executive director, said yesterday that he did not know why one bar was allowed to stay open while the other was closed.

Yeah it went, The Roxy, Aqua, Old School, The Nuthouse. You could also include Alcatraz in the same list though since they shared a common area in the back and when Alcatraz charged a higher cover you could still go in from the back so they were basically the same place.
