After a thirty-year hiatus, the Lincoln Theater reopened its doors earlier today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held by Mayor Coleman, City Council, and many others.
The $13.5-million renovation project is expected to lead new development in the King Lincoln District just east of Downtown and bring new visitors to the neighborhood.
The 566-seat theater is being managed by CAPA, who also manage many other historic performance venues Downtown including The Ohio Theatre, The Palace Theatre, and The Southern Theatre.
A community open-house is being held on Monday, May 25th from 1-4pm, and the lineup of grand-opening events extends through the rest of next week. More details on these upcoming events can be found online here.

Its really cool they’re supporting the Jazz arts group jazz academy and recording studios. C-bus has a small but mighty local jazz scene, and this will support that in a really neat way.
13.5 million is a lot of money, I can’t believe it took that much. I really hope it is worth it. It would be great to have another nice area of town.
From what I’ve heard (and seen) the building was in really bad shape when they first got their hands on it. If you watch the NBC4i video, there’s a guy who describes a lot of the demolition work and structural reinforcement they had to do on the inside before they could start restoring.
I’d encourage everyone to come check it out on Monday during the free open house tour. It’s a fairly large building and includes not only the main theatre performance stage, but a large second-floor reception/rehearsal area, meeting space on the first floor, a whole new lobby wing that was added on, and the third floor hosts the Jazz Arts Academy which includes recording studios and classroom space.
If they had spent 13.5M just on the main theatre room, I agree that it would be a lot, but that’s really only about 1/4th of the building. There is going to be a lot going on in this building, and I’m very excited about what it’s bringing back to the neighborhood. :D
Sounds and looks great. Long Street is still a bit rough, but that gateway area is nice. Easy walk from CSCC to Urban Spirit.
