The Greener Grocer opened in the historic North Market in Columbus
Tuesday January 8, 2008.
Our goal is to support local, Ohio and sustainable agriculture whenever possible. we offer a fair deal and encourage environmental, economic and social responsibility.
We are also interested in custom food crops for direct sale to the Greener Grocer on an annual basis.
We are convinced there is a market for local products. We welcome the opportunity to use the Greener Grocer as a vehicle to create a small farm, wholesale market outlet.

I stopped in this past weekend and I’m REALLY happy about this upgrade. Prices were better, selection was better, and the produce looked much fresher.
This place also manages to get over the constant nag I’ve got about produce vendors. For some reason onions and garlic will be $1-2/lb, but “specialty” ingredients in the same family (like shallots) will be $4. Same goes for things like fingerling and purple potatoes.
I got my dinner from there last night and really enjoyed it (Carved out a radicchio so I just had a bowl, sautéed oyster mushrooms, onions, chopped radicchio, sweet potatoes, tomatillos, mixed that with a sweet lime vinaigrette and chunks of greek sheep feta cheese from Zeta and put it all back into the bowl.) They will get more selection and more local ingredients as time goes by and the growing season starts. Really excited to have them here, what a great addition
Greener grocer is from the orgization LOCAL MATTERS who shares an office with WCRS and Simply Living.
It is good to see Simply Living and Local Matters actually have their idea’s come to fruition. Too many organizations just seem to talk and not get anything done, kudos to these two, thanks.
I’ve tried the Ratatouille and it is delicious!
I got to hear quite a bit more about the Greener Grocer during my first meeting on the board at the North Market this evening and was thrilled to hear about not only what they’re doing right now, but also the potential for collaborations with other vendors within the North Market and organizations outside the Market.
One thing I didn’t really think about at first, but Charly mentioned at the meeting… the Greener Grocer can be counted as a sort of Year-Round Farmer’s Market to rival what Worthington has recently done. Except that the Worthington Farmer’s Market is only open every other Saturday through the winter while the Greener Grocer is open throughout the week.
Anyway, definitely worth checking out for anyone who’s interested in buying local produce. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more good things from them soon.
If they only had some organic/local milk!!! I love the place. I love their signs. I love that I can walk there!
You should check with Mike at Curds and Whey, I think he carries organic if not local milk. If he doesn’t already, he might start if demand made it feasible.
Also, during the farmer’s market season, the folks from Oakvale Creamery bring their cheese – and they might be able to bring milk if the interest is there.

Sunflower Market carries Ohio organic milk, as well as local cage-free eggs.
Clintonville Community Co-op has multiple verities of Ohio organic milk.
