The Dagwood Challenge – Relive the Magic!

By:

The Travel Channel has a new show called Man vs. Food. The host travels around the country profiling good food cities and taking on one of the culinary eating feats in that town. The show came to Columbus and covered an OSU tailgate, Schmidt’s and the Thurman Burger. For the grand finale…. The Dagwood at the Ohio Deli.

The Dagwood Challenge was one of the first CU Food field trips of the year. There was drama – Coremodels defeated by a side of fries, Zach showing his unexpected skill in the realm of food consumption and Roland…finding his dancing ability limited by 2 1/2 pounds of lunch meat.

The Columbus episode of Man vs. Food will air on the Travel Channel, December 10th at 10:30 PM with multiple repeats over the following week. Walker put together a great documentary video of that CU Dagwood Challenge. I have to feel that that may have led the Travel Channel to our fair city.

  • I’m not so sure that I want to relive this nightmare!

  • Excellent news! After work I’m gonna plop down on the sofa and chow down while watching. Love me some food porn.

  •

    That is just AWESOME!

  • The though of cold ham still makes me quiver.

nobody disassembles a sandwich so it looks like it was eaten better than you though.

A lifetime of not clearing my plate…in your face starving children in Africa!

  • The best part about this episode of Man vs. Food is that back in the late summer, when the show was being shot, a good friend of mine was involved in the production team. You can probably see Dday eating food at the diner right next to Adam Richman.

That being said – this cabbagehead still does not approve of carnivorous eating contests. But, have fun without me.

I think one of the funniest parts of the video was the look on your face when the sandwich first comes out. priceless.

Daniel’s singing is surely the grossest, but admittedly funny too!

He could have handled it. But Cyclist has been a pescitarian since July.

  • I wanna see Zach eat a NS veggie burger that size.

  • Coremodels is just jealous anyway.

Plus the girl I saw before you was vegan. So I don’t see any thing but random diets that are neither based on my girlfriend’s at the time nor the time of year.

Actually, if you can believe it with my dietary habits, I lived with a veg for 6 years. It wasn’t always a pleasant dinner time, but oh well.

p.s. I later cooked her over low heat, and her vegetarian meat was delicious.

  • The Dispatch may do an article about the Dagwood, Man vs. Food, and etc., this week.

Stay tuned to CU for details.

And expect some comments about the show on Thursday, there may be an unoffical viewing party Wednesday after the CU meet up.

I still think Walkers Video of the CU Dagwood Challenge will beat anything the Travel Channel can throw out.

  • Will be out of town, but I set my DVR for it.

  • I heard that Ohio Deli paid various CU affluent ilk a million dollars to get all of this publicity going. I am off to go swimming in the cash pool.

  • The official preview is up! :D Was actually emailed to me by someone from the Travel Channel. I’m still waiting on my check though. :(

  • It looks like the Pittsburgh episode has the original Quaker Steak and Lube featured with their Atomic Wings. Looking forward to the show!
