The Brownstone on Main Returns on Friday

By: Walker

The Brownstone is making a surprise return this Friday to their former 122 E. Main Street location Downtown. A Facebook event of the grand opening is listed here, and includes drink specials and a DJ spinning R&B, Neo Soul, and Hip-Hop.

For those unfamiliar with the venue, it was closed in October of 2007 after some controversial issues with the installation of an outdoor patio that closed of the Lazelle Street alley next to the restaurant. Earlier this year, the building was put up for auction and there was some speculation that The Brownstone could be returning.

Anyone planning on checking out the grand re-opening on Friday?

  • This is GREAT news. I doubt I’ll make the re-opening, but I’ll definitely be there soon.

  • I’m happy to see them reopening in some capacity too. Hopefully dinner and then maybe lunch service will come back into the picture.

  • yeah! great news. i hope the dinner menu comes back, mmmm, loved their fried chicken, greens & purple potatoes.

  • I heard a little bit more about it tonight. Sounds like this is event-only. Not sure if it’s going to be regular/semi-regular events, but it sounds like the Brownstone restaurant is actually not returning with this.

  • and it’s NOT the original owners

  • Good to hear its not the original owners..

  • Good, this area needs something like this

  • based on the number of “owners” previously, coupled with the flyer for the “mid month mixer” i received today — i fear the new ownership is going to offer columbus another pretty venue, for the same old party. hopefully i’m wrong.
    disclaimer: i’m biased.

  • This place has so much potential.  Any place with good music in “the basement” is worth checking out at least once.  I was hoping they’d turn it into a seedy, sweaty jazz venue in the basement.

  • I’m really bummed … several of my friends live in the Hartman Lofts and we used to like being able to have a place nearby for drinks and dinner. Dirty Franks is FANTASTIC but sometimes you want a little more to you dinner. (PS. Agree with others re: new owners. We had a shaddy experience with a couple of the former staff members and a manager.)

  • anyone make it out to see the new-ness??
