The ball keeps rolling!
Excerpts from the Downtown Commission’s upcoming meeting agenda…
The Body Shop Apartments – 495 E. Main Street
2. The Body Shop Apartments renovation concept would consist of the following:
a. Renovation of the existing building at 495 E. Main Street (southeast corner of East Main Street and South Washington Avenue), which contains a two-story portion which faces Main Street and a one-story portion which faces Washington Avenue.
b. In addition to the renovation of the existing building, the applicant is proposing to construct a three-story addition on top of the one-story portion of the existing building.
c. The ground floor of the project and the existing two-story building facing Main Street would be designated for commercial/retail uses. The new three-story addition would be designated for 30 residential units.

Awesome! Nice to hear some new development news from this side of town.
But technically, isn’t this “Market Exchange” instead of “Discovery District”?
Yes, but no one cares. Are they really even worthy of the moniker “district”?
I think it’s techinically the “McDonalds/Donatos District.”
Idunno…on the map at columbusretrometro they are shown as overlapping…

So I guess we’re both right!
What exactly is there to “discover” in the discovery district? New ways to get mugged? :?
Well, at Columbus State and CCAD you can “discover” the rising cost of higher education.
What’s the costs at CSCC these days? When I was there it was dirt cheap… around $65-70 per credit hour, which was a fraction of what I paid at OSU and Franklin. I’ve heard CCAD has always been pricey.
Originally along with Columbus State, CCAD and the Museum of Art there was COSI. So there was some combo of education and museums – ergo discovery.
As for Col State tuition, it’s only $1594 for full time tuition & fees for an entering student. On the spectrum of higher education, that’s still pretty cheap.
I thought the “Discovery District” name came long after COSI moved… or I guess I never heard it until after that.
Their website touts the follwing “Discovery” destinations:
Capital University Law School
Columbus Museum of Art (480 E Broad St)
Columbus State Community College
Columbus Academy of Art & Design
Columbus Metro Libraray
Fort Hayes
Franklin University
Kelton House Museum & Garden
Thurber House
Grant Medical Center
Topiary Park
Very informative. Thank you, Walker.
You’re very sincerely welcome, Paul. We can discuss this issue further tonight at “8″.
