The second annual Best Bites: Sweet Treats event is only a few days away, and tickets are over 80% sold out! If you love desserts and you love Mardi Gras, then you’ll want to check out the full details below:
Columbus Underground is gathering all of the city’s top dessert makers together for one night of delicious indulgence at our second annual Best Bites: Sweet Treats event on Tuesday, February 9th at The Athenaeum.
This Mardi Gras themed event will feature 28 businesses providing samples of everything from pies to ice creams to donuts to marshmallows to donuts and everything in between. Attendees will also cast their votes to name one dessert the Best Bite in Columbus!
Here’s a quick preview of several of the treats that will be featured at the event:
Cream Puffs
From Copious
New Brewery District restaurant Copious will be showcasing the housemade cream puffs from their dessert menu. The bite-sized puffs are filled with bavarian cream, dipped in chocolate, drizzled with Grand Marnier toffee and chocolate sauces, and topped with house-made whipped cream.
Brownies and Cream Puffs
From The Table
The pastry chefs from The Table in the Short North will be showcasing two types of desserts at Best Bites: Sweet Treats. One is a brownie with whipped peanut butter mousse, and the other is a cream puffs filled with OYO Stonefruit Vodka whipped cream.
Ice Cream with Mix and Match Topping Bar
From Graeter’s Ice Cream
Our friends at Graeter’s will be showcasing several of their signature handcrafted flavors, including Madagascar Vanilla Bean, Dutch Milk Chocolate and Salted Caramel. They’ll also have a portable version of their Mix and Match Topping Bar on side, which includes homemade Bittersweet, Peanut Butter and Marshmallow toppings.
Buckeyes and Bacon Peanut Brittle
From Eagle Family Candy
Clintonville’s Eagle Family Candy shop will feature two classic treats during this year’s edition of Best Bites: Sweet Treats. One is their chocolate-and-peanut-butter Buckeye, made from a secret family recipe. The other is a bacon peanut brittle, infused with smoke and heat!
Coffee Samplers
From Stauf’s and Thunderkiss
What would dessert be without coffee? We’ve got not one, but two local coffee roasters who will be on hand to provide samples. Thunderkiss will be showcasing their Sweet French roast, their El Salvador single farm coffee, and their cold brew toddy. Stauf’s will have on hand their Costa Rica La Pastora Tarrazu and their Ethiopia Bebeka Estate Natural Geisha, as well as bite-sized bakery samples of their coffee cake muffins and apple cinnamon scone bites.
Advance tickets to the event are $30, which includes unlimited sweet treat samples and a cash bar featuring Crafthouse Cocktails as well as beer and wine options. Tickets are expected to sell out. A portion of the proceeds from all ticket sales will be donated to the The Columbus Foundation’s Gifts of Kindness Fund.
Participating treat makers include Three Kids and a Kitchen, MMELO, J-Pops Gourmet Ice Pops, Graeter’s Ice Cream, Lyric Donuts, Katy’s Kandies, 1803 Bacon, Red Velvet Cafe, The Table, Mika’s Cupcakes & Creams, Pattycake Bakery, Rime Time Pops, Copious, Velvet Ice Cream, Kroger Bakery, Sugardaddy’s Sumptuous Sweeties, Cherbourg Bakery, Eban’s Bakehouse, Schmidt’s, Gallerie Bar & Bistro, Four and Twenty Blackbird Bakeshop, Cakes and More, The Angry Baker, Eagle Family Candy, Laughlin’s Bakery, Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, Capital City Cakes and Sunday’s Cakery.
The Columbus Underground Best Bites event series have collectively raised over $7,500 for local charities since August 2014.
