+1 !!!!
Although, a little greenish. Odd.
Just looked out my window, and your right.
Nice! Anyone got any photos?
They’ve been closing down sections of High to do night work on them for awhile now, so I figured it was going to be pretty soon when we’d start seeing them lit up.
Perhaps they’ll all be on for the next Gallery Hop?
Nice! I remember seeing them on when they were first installed years ago. Glad I took that drive because they were off shortly after that. I hope this is first of many nights the lights will remain on.
Well they said they were going to do a silent lighting of just the standard white lights. We wont see the whole color display they paid for until the grand ceremony. I can’t blame them, since they paid for them, but as long as it’s taken, I am rather ambivalent on the whole changing colors thing at this point and I live on High Street.
All the arches have bulbs.
I cant wait to see the whole street lit up.
Miraculous.
looks pretty good too.
+1 !!!!

yea they definitely have a greenish tint to them. maybe they weren’t set to “white” light mode.

After four and a half years of unlit bulbs, lawsuits, increasing costs, postponed deadlines, broken hearts and infinite turmoil, the arches will finally cast their incandescent glow over North High Street.
“We’re doing a soft opening at the end of May,†said John Angelo, director of the Short North Business Association. “I think this is actually looking like it’s on target.â€Â
Angelo said he’s confident the lights will be on by May 31, but given the history of the project, it’s no surprise he uses the word “should†a lot when talking about the imminent lighting. “We’re going to do a considerable amount of testing,†Angelo said. “Then, sometime in the summer, we’ll have a big unveiling.â€Â
Initially, Short North strollers will bask only in white light. But once all the system checks are completed, the lights will be programmable to dance in an array of colors and patterns.
“Columbus will be dazzled,†Angelo said.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say NEVER before has their been so much money, time, effort, and emotion spent on STREET LIGHTS.
Don’t get me wrong, the arches do look really nice, IMO, and do a great job of tying the neighborhood together & jazzing it up a bit, but SERIOUSLY… ultimately they’re just fancy street lights!
Oh come on now, a REAL Debbie Downer would’ve pointed out the likelihood that even after all the effort, it won’t be very long before bulbs start breaking/burning out…
Good point
The article gives a total amount of money spent on the lights, but are they also counting money recouped in the court battle? I mean, that’s why it took so long for them to even get around to starting to fix the broken system because the city took the original contracting company to court over the mess they made. I thought I read that the city won and the contracting company was responsible for paying for the repairs?
Short North arches finally lighting up, a few at a time

“We’re going to have a system that’s superior to what we had before,” Wagner said. “Each globe is programmable individually, where before a fourth of the globes on one arch were addressed as a group.”
That means that millions of combinations of colors, patterns and pulses will emanate from the bulbs, programmed by city officials at a Columbus City Hall computer.
Officials have been leery of announcing a celebration date until the lights work perfectly. The plan is to light a few each night this week. The contract guarantees that they’ll all be on by May 31.

Here’s another picture of the arches light, sent along by my wife, manager of Paul Robinett’s candle shop. I don’t know who the guy is; John Angelo of the SNBA sent it to her.
