An article in today’s Dispatch by Marla Matzer Rose takes an interesting look at the new batch of hotels popping up along Route 315 between OSU, Upper Arlington, and Grandview. In addition to four existing hotels, another four are either under construction or in the planning phases. That includes the proposal for a new SpringHill Suites hotel at the former Buckeye Hall of Fame Cafe site, and the new Hyatt Place hotel that is under construction in the new Grandview Yard development.

I think it’s pretty good news that more hotels are going up in this area. Right now it seems like in Columbus you have the hotels downtown, the little cluster around Ackerman/Olentangy River, and then most everything else is somewhere out around 270 or otherwise on the outskirts. More mid-range hotels and motels closer to the center of town should be good, not only for OSU travelers, but for anybody who wants to spend time downtown, or in the Short North, Grandview, etc., but doesn’t necessarily have the budget for a downtown hotel, or who is traveling by car and doesn’t want to spend $15 a day for parking.
I know I am not alone in saying I would like to see more unique boutique hotels also. They are fun to stay in!
There’s some by the airport too.
I agree with post #1, more hotels are needed in the OSU area, especially after the Holiday Inn became a res hall. There are a few hidden B’n'Bs around the Short North, there is one right on W.5th & Harrison.
Theres a good Embassy Suites way out off 270 thats buried among large corporate buildings. The airport does have some nicer, new ones and thats only 15 minutes (or less) from downtown and Short North…
So whatever happened to the proposed boutique hotel planned next to Marcella’s? I think it was either Pizzuti or Casto. I remember seeing a rough rendering a couple of years ago. It was about 10 stories. That would be the perfect place for one. Did it get stuck in the red tape like most everything.
Haven’t heard any updates on that “UCT Block” development since it was announced nearly two years ago. My assumption would be that the financing for the project never got lined up, rather than red tape keeping it in limbo.
actually Jon Myers and I posted about the Puzzuti project in the SN in the parking meter thread:
It is by Pizzuti isn’t it?

In all the former build-up including the above article, I had heard the plans included a potential sight to house their amazing personal modern art collection.
Makes me think of the Chambers in MSP: http://www.chambersminneapolis.com/index.php
Is some entity actually holding this up?
They were going to build a local hotel with 190-220 rooms (so more than 1/3 of the Hilton) without requiring a meter increase, but it is being blocked to a point it cannot be resolved? Argh.
The article linked to it is now more than a year old, but there were definitely some red tape issues in place, especially about blocking off that small section of Wall Street (alley). I am not sure if this is what is actually holding the project up though.
As for the hotels off 315, they’re a good mix for that area. And if they’re trading a Knight’s Inn for a Hampton, that is a win for the area.
