Located in south Columbus near German Village, the neighborhood is named for Nathaniel Merion, who settled there in 1809. German, Irish, Italian, and Hungarian immigrants flocked to the area during the mid-19th century. Merion Village is home to eight churches, including St. Leo’s, which opened a free parochial school that didn’t charge tuition until the early 1970s.
