Interstates 70 and 71 merge and unmerge in Downtown Columbus in what is commonly referred to as “The Split”. In 2011, the Ohio Department of Transportation began work on a multi-phase multi-billion-dollar project that aims to relieve traffic congestion through this dangerous stretch of highway. Additionally, the project will demolish and rebuild over a dozen Downtown street-level bridges and add new pedestrian-friendly amenities to help reconnect Downtown to the neighborhoods located on opposite sides of the highways.

More information on the project can be found at http://dot.state.oh.us.
