Where was The Suisse Shop when I was choosing wedding cake? The answer is: Polaris Parkway, where they’ve been located since 2003, quietly dominating the Columbus wedding cake market. And actually, wedding cake is just one thing they’ve perfected. Perfection is the name of The Suisse Shop’s game and as much as it sounds like hyperbole, all of The Suisse Shop’s offerings are flawless. They hit a magical point of balance with each product, never being overly rich or cloying texture while still offering an amazing flavor profile. [Read More]

Bakery Gingham will be expanding for the second time in 2009 as they prepare to open a new Short North retail store at 647 North High Street. “The plan is to open in November,” said owner and baker Amanda Ellis, “but it depends on city inspections.”
The 500 square foot retail space will feature all of the cupcakes, cookies, bars, and other baked goods that Gingham has come to be known for. Additionally, Amanda will continue to offer larger custom-made cakes for special events. “We’re excited to be on Wedding Row,” she added, dubbing the area that is already home to Big Rock Little Rooster, Jacob Neal, and Rose Bredl Flowers.
Update (10/27/09) - The new Short North Location will be opening on Sat Oct 31st!

Brownies in the round — that’s the shape of things at Sugardaddy’s Sumptuous Sweeties. The gourmet brownies and blondies have been made in an area bakery and sold online for four years, said Tom Finney, co-founder and co-owner. This month, the business expanded, adding a storefront to the bakery at 1329 Cameron Ave., Lewis Center.

Last night we hosted a cocktail party with a buffet of little bites. We wanted to feature a beautiful Berkshire Heritage ham and rare beef tenderloin in an easy to manage format to allow our guests to converse and eat while they stood. A regular bun or roll didn’t seem to do justice to these lovely meats. Brioche would match nicely, we thought. [Read More]

German Village is getting even sweeter. Amanda Ellis is moving her sweet shop Bakery Gingham to a bigger space on Thurman Avenue. The new space has allowed her to expand her selection of goodies too! Bakery Gingham became well-known as the delicious and beautiful cupcake spot next to the Brown Bag Deli. She offered six different cupcake flavors a day, all homemade. Now she is able to offer cupcakes as well as quick breads, bars, biscotti, coffee cakes, cookies, croissants, muffins, scones and pocket pies. The grand opening for the new space will be this Saturday, January 31st. We stopped last weekend for a sneak peak… [Read More]

Bigger cupcakes

Amanda Ellis has begun to take her Bakery Gingham from its 220-square-foot closet at 900 Mohawk St. in German Village south across Schiller Park to Thurman Avenue, where she’ll luxuriate in a 1,200-square-foot space.
The new shop is next to the Thurman Cafe, but don’t go looking for her there yet. Ellis doesn’t expect to complete the move before German Village’s annual Village Lights, scheduled for Dec. 7.
Ellis needs the space not only to handle walk-in customers who crave her cupcakes, but also to deal with wholesale work for the Kickstart coffeehouse in the Short North and Super Suppers in Hilliard.

I didn’t see this piece of news anywhere else on the boards, so here goes…
Last week i was at Brown Bag deli and the little liquor shop they had on the side was undergoing some construction.
i picked up this week’s GV gazette and there is an article about the place going in there.
its called “Bakery Gingham”. Looks like a nice addition to the village. They’ll be opening for village lights.
