Sushi Rock is coming in spring from Cleveland to fill the space vacated when Paul Liu’s Chinese Restaurant and Bluefish Seafood on the Cap closed at 570 N. High St.
Sushi Rock offers what it calls an Am-Asian menu, with sushi and sashimi, and entrees involving seafood, as well as steak, turkey and chicken.

Does this place have any relationship with SushiSamba?
seems like that particular spot on the cap is cursed .
I’m pretty sure this is the same guys that did the Sushi Rock up in Cleveland. The SR up there pretty much looks like a nightclub and their fish was.. OK. I’m guessing they could probably do well here..
As far as that spot being cursed, I don’t think so.. I heard enough bad things about the food and service at both places there to make me surprised they had hung on as long as they did.
Alas, no.
Enjoyed the Cleveland Downtown Sushi Rock a long time ago. Fish was acceptable, but not much better.
A.
Alas, no.
Agreed. I’m usually not a big fan of fusion food, but SushiSamba won me over the time I wandered into their Chicago restaurant and had a great meal. It helped that I remembered their sushi chef from the venerable Hatsuhana (RIP), but all in all great fish and very inventive and delicious presentations. I’d love to see one here in Columbus, but I think it will be a few years before that happens.
nah, I ate at both places before they went out of business. neither were that good and that says a lot since I like just about anything.
Paul Liu’s had a quality General Tso’s, but lunch prices were like dinner prices. I guess regardless people just expect Chinese food to be cheap and I didn’t try their other dishes.

Never was a fan of Blue Fish or Paul Liu’s. Aside from the proportions of the space feeling like Epoct, I’m not a fan of Asian Fusion. With the exception of Nida’s I haven’t really been to too many Asian restaurants that do two different varieties of food well. Say in their case Japanese and Thai (good stuff) or in the case of Blue Fish, Chinese, sushi and Americana Seafood dishes (not so good).
I’m kind of a purist with dining. I wouldn’t go to Hyde Park for a pasta dish and I wouldn’t go to a Chinese or Korean restaurant for sushi. You need to be good at one thing.
There is something slightly disturbing about Sushi in the middle of the midwest or great plains. It’s kind of like ordering the chicken breast at a steak house.
Edit: Wooops, my misteak. I looked at their menu and saw that the majority of the main courses are steak. The name threw me for a loop.
You just have to pay a little more for freshness. That’s all.
Whoopie… another sushi restaurant in Columbus
I just can’t get excited about it.
I just can’t get excited about it.
As someone who cant get enough Sushi, I am excited about this. We have some Sushi restaurants that look amazing, and some with great sushi ….. hopefully someone can combine the two.

Now you can go to a different one every day of the month.
The Sushi Rock in Cleveland did have a very clubby atmosphere. If they are trying to fit in with the Eleven/Bar 23/Spice crowd then it will go over well. It will definitely have a different vibe from, say, Kooma, or Haiku, so it might be good for people looking for a different experience.
sushi rock sucks. they have half off thursdays, while the sushi still sucks– it’s half off.
I am getting tired of Sushi. Can we just get one Indian restaurant in the SN?? That would rock.
+1
That’s the one amenity Downtown has that the Short North doesn’t. Well, I guess there’s not a Statehouse in the Short North.

Ha. I do love Indian Oven.
You can find indian food at the North Market. Not too far of a walk, but the hours are limited. ;)
Honestly, I was hoping for something other than asian fare to replace Bluefish/Paul Liu’s because there’s quite a bit of saturation on the south end of the short north and north end of downtown. Between Kooma, the Japanese Steakhouse, Nida’s in the NM, the chinese place in the NM, Lac Viet in the NM, the new asian place replacing Zen, Tyfoon, and Lemongrass… there’s already more than enough options round there.
