Considering the Cheesy Truck’s logo is inspired by the Louis Vuitton monogram and its menu boasts a $100 sandwich called “The Jackie O,” I wasn’t surprised to learn that its proprietor, Rick Wolfe, is a dapper man about town.
The Los Angeles transplant brought the Cheesy Truck, which serves artisanal grilled cheese sandwiches, with him when he moved to Columbus earlier this year. Despite the move to chillier climes, Wolfe hasn’t sacrificed an ounce of style.
He describes his summer and winter looks as “Palm Beach derelict” and “displaced English country gentleman,” respectively. However, when getting dressed for the day, Wolfe doesn’t keep anything particular in mind.
“I try to be spontaneous and dress to the occasion or my mood,” he said.
To learn what else the “Big Cheese”/branding consultant has to say about fashion and style, keep reading.
Favorite fashion trend of all time?
The trend of caring about dressing up.
What are you most vain about?
Everything, but I prefer to think of it as “attention to personal details.”
Who do you consider a style icon?
Gianni Agnelli, the Duke of Windsor, my father, and everybody ever photographed by Slim Aarons.
What are three items you can’t live without?
My father’s dog tags, Moscot eyewear, 1969 Rolex, and a bandana.
Your favorite local shop?
I haven’t bought anything in years, except an ’80s Benetton rugby from eBay. My closet consists of years of “collecting,” but I love to look through Brigade, Milk Bar, and Rowe.
A style motto you live by.
Be confident and do your thing. As Robert Evans said in “The Kid Stays in the Picture,” “Fuck ’em, fuck ’em all.”
