COLUMBUS City Council meeting – Streetcars to get public hearing next week

Columbus City Council members complained last week that they’ve been left out of the loop on Mayor Michael B. Coleman’s streetcar plan.
Last night, they made the loop bigger.
The council will host its first public hearing next week on the $103 million proposal to build a 2.8-mile rail line between Downtown and Ohio State University. The council’s decision came in an impromptu debate at the end of the weekly meeting.
The day and time haven’t been firmed up, but Councilwoman Maryellen O’Shaughnessy said she wants the session to take place before the council votes on Coleman’s proposed 2008 capital budget.
That budget, which includes a $2 million request to begin design and engineering work for the streetcar line, is scheduled for council action on May 5.

COLUMBUS City Council meeting – Streetcars to get public hearing next week

Wow, that might be longer than the north star thread
Fixed that for ya. ;)
…
;)
There was two threads titled almost identically:
Streetcars to get public hearing next week (this one)
&
City Council Public Hearing on the Streetcar Proposal (in Civic Meetings)
Since the specific subject is the same, I thought it might be helpful. I was looking for an answer to my question going off the link on the New Posts pages and was confused when I couldn’t even find my post.

Sorry for the confusion.
Honestly, I don’t have an easy way to “merge” threads with phpbb2. Which is one of the reasons we’re in the process of upgrading some things around here.
Fixed that for ya. ;)
I can’t wait til we actually have the streetcars. Then we go do a running thread like the NS documenting each time we use one. Kewl.

Pretty much cleared my stuff, so I will be there. Hopefully make it in time to sign up to speak as a business owner in the street car area.

hmm, gym vs. bodega?
too bad we can’t take the street car from downtown to bodega. yet.
Fixed that for ya. ;)
Less original than the Northstar thread. Just as much of a joke as the Northstar thread.
Does anyone know a good place to park for the meeting? I was thinking maybe Vets?
Yes I counted all the pages from all those threads and it currently adds up to 177 pages if they were to be combined. Nearly 90 pages more than the NS thread.
BUT.
The NS thread is only 10 months old. Some of those streetcar threads are from 2006.
AND Some of them are only part or the thread topic and not entirely on topic with streetcars. So Walker would have to go on a topic purge.

What business do you own? I thought you were a secretary.
Free parking on the surface lots directly north of City Hall.

Lol. Forgive me if I am wrong, but I formed a picture of Andrew in my head as an attorney. Not a ambulance chaser, or defense attorney, but as a corporate attorney, the ones that would work at Jones Day for instance.

LOL! far from it!
Although, he would probably be very good at that if he wanted to.
cheers

Shows how much I know then. It comes from the way he writes posts, they are very eloquent, and never seem to have grammatical or spelling mistakes, very lawyer like if you will. He also spoke about taking out clients, and giving gifts to clients all the time, and these are practices I associate with corporate attorneys.
Meeting is live on GTV-3 (cable channel 3) for those who are interested
cheers

Just got home. We weren’t able to stick around the whole time, but got to hear the first 12 speakers or so. They seem pretty split between for and against.
Many of the comments I heard from the against crowd seemed to be pro-transit-improvement though and not anti-public-transit, which I hope Council takes to heart.
If anyone is watching the feed online (link two posts up), Jeff Zettler is about to speak. ;)
