Several weeks ago, the Red Brick District blog mentioned the fact that the beautiful four story brick building that housed the former Brownstone on Main restaurant was up for auction. An anonymous source let me know today that the building sold to the owner of the Ohio Lofts located right across the street and he has plans to repopulate the ground floor of the building with another restaurant concept. It doesn’t sound like it will be brought back as “The Brownstone on Main”, but a similar type of restaurant could be in store.
If the rumors turn out to be true, I’d expect something new there to be able to be open for business fairly quickly. Judging from the auction photos, it look like the past owners left pretty much everything intact when they vacated the building:

That is such a pretty space and I love that building.
I hope it gets a tenant quickly and becomes a real addition to the neighborhood!
Wonder what is in the 3 stories above the restaurant?
That’s good news, I miss having more dining options on the south side of downtown.
I have been to events in the upstairs portion, the Brownstone on Main used that as rental space for meetings etc. From what I could see it was a a great space inside.
Looks mostly like offices according to the photos on the auction site.
^^the Brownstone had 2 different private levels upstairs.
- level 2 had at least 2 rooms for private dining parties, one for groups of around 15 the other for probably 40+
- level 3 was a private club room with flat screens, pool table, private bar, etc… it was quite the set-up, but i am sure most of these accoutrements are gone.
That building has housed 2 distinct restaurants – Out on Main and Brownstone. Hopefully something new will follow suit.
Ah, thanks for the update. We tried to go to the Brownstone a few times for dinner, but it was always a spontaneous idea and the wait was over an hour without a reservation, so we went elsewhere.
Looking forward to what comes next!
David’s on Main as well.
A.
i really liked brownstone, but service there was not always on par. i loved the bar and the basement for jazz was fantastic. i hope that whatever goes in brings something good that will last. that was a great location for dinner before shows at the Southern or Ohio Theaters.
I think any restaurant will make for a great destination for the neighborhood. Even if the busier hours are later at night when stores are closed, it does bring eyeballs to the neighborhood and really lets people know about the amenities on Main Street that they may have previously overlooked.
