Sneak Preview: The New & Improved Scioto Downs

By: Walker

Scioto Downs will be reopening their doors this Friday, June 1st at 2pm with some noteworthy upgrades to this horse racing destination. New ownership at MTR Gaming Group are completing the installation of 1,800 new video lottery terminals (slot machines), two restaurants and multiple bars.

Once open, the venue will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The restaurants will be open 24/7 as well.

The casino portion of the new “racino” sits in front of the older horse racing facility, and the two are interconnected somewhat seamlessly within the building. The slots are arranged in a circular configuration with the Veil Lounge bar in the middle. The Dash Cafe restaurant sits off to the side, with the second restaurant (a buffet-style eatery) planned for phase two of the facility to be completed at a later date. The site could eventually see the addition of a hotel, which management said will be a part of their long term development plans if the demand necessitated it.

If you plan to go on Friday keep in mind that admission is free, and there are plenty of ATMs located throughout the facility if you decide to take a spin on the penny slots or the $100 machine.

  • Fools and their money are soon parted…

  • Their bar actually looks pretty swanky. I’d consider getting a drink there sometime, even though gambling’s not really my thing. Cocktails and watching horse racing sounds like a fun date.

  • I’d better go on Friday before it starts to look like the old Scioto Downs

    LOL

It does look like a shiny new cash extracting machine, but I bet the shine wears off quickly.

  • I’m happy for them. I hope it brings some life back into the track part also.

ps. It was always open 24 hours for simulcast betting. They seems to forget to mention that in all their releases.
