Those hoping for $10 flights to the Bahamas and Mexico on Skybus this summer are out of luck. Skybus Airlines applied last year to fly to two cities in the Bahamas as well as to Cancun, Mexico and hasn’t given any updates on when they might launch those flights.
But Skybus CEO Bill Diffenderffer tells the Bahamian paper The Nassau Guardian this week that the airline won’t start flying to the Bahamas until at least fall 2008. He says “regulatory and logistic concerns,” not the economy, are dictating the timeline.

Skybus International: Don’t Hold Your Breath

I am flying Skybus for the first time tomorrow at 6:00 a.m. to go to a funeral in North Carolina– which begins at 2:00. I appreciate being able to have purchased a 170 dollar quick round trip to Greensboro. But I will have to admit I’m nervous. Should I have booked the 500-buck ticket instead? We shall see, and otherwise I’ll be driving. But I’m glad it’s here and cheap (crossing fingers).
I’m sure you’ll be fine. You can check in online 24-hours in advance, which is advisable so that you can board the plane faster and have a better choice of where you want to sit.
Let us know what you think when you get back! :D
Thanks, Walker. I have my printed boarding passes. It’s a can’t-miss funeral, praying for no mechanical problems. Otherwise I return to the blue lot and start driving!
I think at this point, no one will miss summer flights to Cancun. Hurricane season + heat + humidity = not a guaranteed fun vacation, especially whe you can get that heat and humidity right at home during the summer, without the hurricane warnings.
