In search of a life-changing experience, Crissy Hardy strapped on skates and joined a circle of sisters. It worked. Hardy is one of about 60 players in the four-team Columbus league, which will decide its championship — the Envy Cup — Sunday at the Ohio Expo Center.
In the championship bout, the Blackeye Bullies will face the Take-Outs; in the consolation match, the Sprockettes will take on the Band of Brawlers. Skaters might be friends outside the rink, but once inside they take on different personalities — with stage names to match.
The Ohio Roller Girls started three years ago after medical technologist Melissa Wallace heard about the aggressive sport and wanted to bring it to Columbus. Since then, membership has quadrupled — with two traveling teams competing in bouts throughout Ohio and surrounding states.
