Shop Talk: AR Workshop Franchise Now Open in Worthington

Franchise owners Stacy Stultz and Jen Blosser opened AR Workshop Worthington at the end of September at 695 High St. in Old Worthington. Both women have a corporate marketing and retail background and have a passion for DIY projects. Their new space enables them to share their project ideas and concepts with an array of customers, as well as utilize their eye for design.

AR Workshop Worthington, part of the bigger AR Workshop franchise, is currently one of two locations in Ohio, although other locations are quickly popping up across the nation. Blosser came across the original AR Workshop in Charlotte, NC and knew immediately it was the type of business her and Stultz had been dreaming of opening.

Stultz and Blosser leased the space formerly inhabited by The Wren House and began their biggest DIY project to date. Removing the ceiling, staining the walls, and remodeling the bathroom are just a few of the projects they accomplished to create their workshop. The pair also worked together to build all the tables and shelves used in their space.

When customers sign up for a class online, they choose the design and personalization of a project. When the customers arrive for their designated class, their workstation is prepped with their necessary tools and templates to create their project. Instructors teach the classes in the step-by-step process of assembling, staining, and painting their projects. Painting techniques such as dry brush and white wash are taught as well. Over 50 colors and five non-toxic stains are available, and the instructors and assistants are available to help the customers select their color combinations that will best achieve their desired look.

Most classes are offered on evenings and weekends, with a few offered on weekdays. Similar projects are grouped together to make the process as smooth as possible for customers. All canvas projects, all plank projects, and all framed projects have specific class times respectively. Groups are encouraged to book an entire table for a class, or rent out the whole space for larger events. In addition to classes, AR Workshop offers parties, youth projects, and Mom & Me classes. Those planning a bachelorette party, girls’ night out, or corporate gathering in the workshop are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks to consume during their time in the workshop.

Also available in the shop is a small selection of home goods and jewelry. Stultz and Blosser are hoping to expand their retail space with more locally sourced goods in the future. AR Workshop Worthington gift cards are also available.
