Nida and Chris Perry, who own Nida’s Sushi in the North Market, are looking to open a Thai and sushi restaurant in the Short North before the end of the year.
The new restaurant, to be called Nida’s, will be at 976 N. High St., which the Perrys bought in 2005, according to Franklin County records.
“It still will take some time” before the restaurant can open, said Nida Perry, who is a native of Thailand with education and experience in business. She and her husband also own the Best of the Wurst hot-dog stall at North Market.

Second Nida’s planned

sweet – some good, quick and moderately priced Thai takeout will be a welcome addition up this way on High.
Nida’s is good – hopefully the new location works out as well & is as tasty as the North Market Nida’s.
Their pad thai is some of the best around but their sushi is terrible… They tease you with the fresh looking tuna in the case, but after you order they work with older stock in the fridge below. I stopped ordering sushi after the second time they pulled that trick.
976 N. High — what’s there now? I’m excited/hopeful that this place will be good. I’m sick of Haiku.
High & Second Ave, kind of across the street from White Castle.
interesting. i need good thai food nearby.

Yeah, I think it’s going to be pretty much right next door, or two doors down from Zen Cha, which is at 982 N. High.
It’s the old Pizza Gourmet space
Nasty.
That’s good. It is about time they stopped selling out of that van parked on Niel Ave. in front of Giant Eagle.
walked downstairs today and it looks as if Nidas is coming along well. Also they are hiring if anyone is interested.
Looks like its gonna be a pretty nice looking place too as all those boxes on the left are from DWR. Sorry for bad pics just had iphone with me.
I’ll quote a response to this from another thread… someone very close to Nida’s had this to say:
Hey, I just wanted to comment on the posted observation that Nida pulls a “switcheroo” by using fish from somewhere other than her display case to fill orders.
I asked her about this and she said that typically only fish for spicy tuna comes from outside of the display case, unless it’s at the start or end of day, or at another time when the display case isn’t fully stocked because of a high demand for a particular type of fish on any given day.
Typically, a batch of spicy tuna is made at the start of the day, from the same source present in display case. The tuna is cut up, placed in a bowl, mixed with spices for better flavor blending, sealed, and placed in the underbar refrigerator that mainly houses sauces and veggies. So despite it coming from somewhere other than the display case, it’s the approprate stock for making spicy tuna. The premixing is done to improve flavor and to more quickly satisfy customer orders.
Also, the display case is small, it can only hold a limited amount of fish. Like any highly productive sushi bar/carryout, there’s other refrigerated storage being utilized to hold additional stock, but that additional stock is the same quality. The display case is meant to be representative, and, for most orders, to provide the easiest point for the chef to draw from.
It’s challenging provide quick, quality, primarily “made-to-order” sushi in a wide-open, walk-up setting like the North Market, and have a sit-down bar too. I think Nida hits the mark. Typically, at groceries (e.g. Kroger or Giant Eagle), or other walk-up/carry-outs (there aren’t many), customers never get to see any of the stock.

I’ve never had Nida’s but the new space looks nice and I am excited that it will be soon another option on High instead of a taped off window! It seems like they have been working on that for a long time. I can’t wait to try it.
Actually just had Nida’s today in the North Market for lunch. Good stuff. :D
I agree, Walker! I’ve had Nida’s plenty of times, and it’s always been great. I’m happy to see them expanding into SN.
I have been going to Nida’s since she opened over five years ago and have never had a problem with her or her sushi. It is quite good for quick and easy sushi, in a easily accesible location.
As for her van, her and her husband happen to live on Neil, which is why it is always parked on Neil —
No one is making you order from her, so if you dont like her food, dont order from there, I happen to adore her and look forward to her new place opening and wish her and Chris the best of luck because she has been wanting to do this for several years.
Chatted w/ Nida on Sat. She hopes to be open in July but as with any build, the timetable is really determined by when the city inspectors make their rounds.

I think their unagi is choice.
Anyone have any updates on this?
Last time I talked to Nida about two weeks ago, she said they were taking their time, because they wanted to make sure everything was the way that they wanted and to not rush anything and she was hoping for late October or early November –
