Schmidt’s Takes Their Meat to the Street with the Launch of New Sausage Truck

Schmidt’s Sausage Haus may be 126 years old, but that doesn’t mean they’re not keeping up with the food truck craze. In fact, it was a show on The Food Network last year that caught the eye of Andy Schmidt, President of  Schmidt Hospitality Concepts, that turned him onto the idea of opening a mobile food operation.

“Schmidt’s has been in the mobile food business for over 80 years, being the oldest food vendor at the Ohio State Fair,” explained Schmidt. “The Schmidt’s Sausage Truck is just an extension of that type of business with a modern twist to it.”

The Schmidt’s Sausage Truck will serve five or six types of sausage items along with their famous cream puffs for dessert. The truck will also allow some menu experimentation that goes beyond the standard offerings at the historic restaurant.

“We’ll use the truck as an incubator for new menu items like a schnitzel sandwich, chicken sausages and different styles of Ruebens,” said Schmidt. “We will be testing our hot pretzel nuggets out on the truck as well.”

A grand opening party for the Schmidt’s Sausage Truck takes place tonight from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Schmidt’s Sausage Haus in German Village. More information about the event can be found via Facebook.
