Once upon a time, long before you or I were born, Columbus only had a few breweries. These days it feels like a new one pops up every other month as the city’s quest to turn into a beer destination continues. And on Saturday night in Grandview, the second “High Gravity Hullabaloo” took place at 845 W Burrell Avenue to celebrate Ohio brewing and bring Columbus a festival where it was ok to “fuss over” the beer.
Billed as “A celebration of strong beers & smoked meats”, the Hullabaloo is a showcase of over-the-top beers of high ABV and, it some cases, ingredient lists as local brewers pulled out their anything-goes beers including some aged in bourbon barrels, some infused with peppers, one flavoured with peanut butter and quite a few pushed as high as Ohio’s alcohol limits will allow.
Featuring a who’s who of local brewing talent, the Hullabaloo served up beers from just about every Columbus brewery (plus a few out of town ones), including unique beers from Barley’s, North High, Four String, Wolf’s Ridge and Actual Brewing Company.
The sold out event also featured meat from ManBQue, delicious pie from Honeykiss Bakery and apps from Matt the Miller’s Tavern.
