Restaurant Review: Lindey’s Polaris

By: borschke

So my parents were in town recently and I wanted to take them somewhere nice but original to Cbus. I decided that we could check out Lindey’s. I had never been there before but thought that it looked decent at least. We got to the restaurant and the menu looked decent enough. There was plenty of variety and I was extremely impressed with the wait staff and look of the place.

My mom had the cheese steak sandwich, my dad had the lobster pasta, and I had the Chicken Bianco Pizza (yeah yeah I know pizza from this place is probably stupid but whatever). Along with my meal I tried out the lobster bisque.

First off my parents just thought their meal was just alright. Nothing special or spectacular for the huge price that you would be paying for it. (both entrees over 12). My soup was good though and I was excited for my pizza. Unfortunately, like I was worried about the pizza was bland and had little flavor but that is what I get for going to a upscale place for pizza. It seems like there is no where you can really go around here for a gormet pizza besides figlio but thats another story all together.

For dessert I though that I would try the peanut butter banana bread pudding which sounded amazing but as you can tell it is no longer on the menu. It must have been some sort of special. It was by far the most disgusting dessert I had ever had in my life. The peanut butter sauce along with it was bland and the pudding along with it was burnt and without flavor. However, I was really suprised and upon the waiter checking back on the table I complained and he got me something else for dessert instead. I eneded up getting the chocolate chip cookies with some ice cream and it really was amazing.

So, all in all the service was fantastic. What other place would actually give you another choice if your food sucked? The dinners were a little bland and pricey but all in all a decent place to take someone in columbus to check out.

I was curious though:

Anyone been to the German Village one?

Anyone checked out their brunch?

What did you all think of their food?

Well, enjoy your weekends and keep on eating!

  • I have only been to Lindey’s at Polaris. We were satisfied with the service, ambience,a nd the food was good.

Though we lived in GV for a while, we never went to that Lindey’s. The intersection in front of that place is bad enough. We have gotten in near car-person and car-car accidents at that intersection. It is as if people eat there and then lose any common sense with traffic rules. I know that grip is not about the food, but it still was related to the topic, kind of :P

  • I have always found the Lindey’s GV to have better food, but I find the servers to be very pretentious at the GV location. I also love the lobster bisque and wedge salad, Dave and I usually order those and do takeout. I have looked into buying a bag of the bisque and was quoted the price of $60 FYI.

  • The Dispatch wrote Polaris Lindey’s to become Brio

Bravo Development Inc. will close its Lindey’s Cafe at Polaris Fashion Place shortly after July 4 and revamp it as a Brio Tuscan Grille, with reopening in the fall.

The original Lindey’s in German Village remains open.

Lindey’s Cafe opened in 2001 but was determined to be “inconsistent with the mission of the company, which is to be the best Italian restaurant company in America,” said Rick Doody, chairman and president.

The original Lindey’s was started by Doody’s mother, Sue, in 1981. Rick Doody and his brother, Chris, opened their first Bravo Cucina Italiana in 1992. The chain now has 36 restaurants in 18 states.

They introduced Brio, a more upscale Italian chain, in 1999; it has grown to 20 units in 10 states.

  • So WEAK.

I can’t stand Brio. Totally overpriced, underwhelming Italian.

I really preferred the Polaris Lindey’s before the revamp into “Lindey’s Cafe”, but even post-revamp it was still a MUCH better choice than Brio.

At least they’re keeping the original location open… though I’m not sure how it fits with that “mission of the company” either…

I guess they’re willing to trade off the “mission of the company” in the name of tradition and credibility. The original Lindey’s, both in legacy and current quality, goes a long way toward legitimizing the rest of their restaurant operations.
